The Livingston Academy Lady Wildcats secured the regular season District 7-3A title on Tuesday as they won at #2 seed Stone Memorial, 5-0.
“That’s what we’ve been working for all year,” said Livingston head coach Kacy Bennett. “Our goal is to go deeper into May and this is the first step. We’re super proud of them.”
Livingston went a perfect 8-0 against district foes and outscored themĀ 67-7 in the process.
Senior pitcher Calla Pierce recorded the victory as she held Stone Memorial to 5 hits in the complete-game shutout. Pierce went 2-3 at the plate with a double and 2 RBIs while catcher Kendall Simpson went 2-4 with an RBI.
Livingston did their damage in the top of the first inning as the Lady Wildcats scored all 5 runs in the opening frame. An RBI single by Simpson kicked off the rally followed by a sacrifice fly to score Bailey Hutchison, making the score 2-0 with two outs. Livingston wasn’t done there as a Tatum Pendergrass single scored Izzabella Whiteside followed by a Pierce double to left, scoring Pendergrass and Brooklyn Loftis to give the Lady Wildcats a 5-0 lead going to the bottom of the first inning.
“That gave us the freedom to play loose defense,” said Bennett. “Their confidence is really high right and they were able to get out ahead while she was still trying to find the strike zone.”
Only one Lady Panther would reach third base throughout the ensuring 7 innings as Livingston shut out Stone Memorial to secure the 5-0 victory and first overall in the upcoming District 7-3 tournament.
Up next for the Lady Wildcats is a non-district contest at home against Clay County on Thursday while Stone Memorial travels to Upperman on Thursday.
