Cole Sims Rushes For 124 Yards, 3 TDs As UC #1 White County Wins at #2 Macon County, 28-14

The top two ranked teams in the Upper Cumberland squared off in Lafayette on Friday as the #1 White County Warriors (6-0, 2-0) traveled to #2 Macon County (5-1, 1-1) and defeated the Tigers, 28-14.

“I’m so proud of the guys,” said White County head coach David Foster. “We know they (Macon County) are a fantastic team and a fantastic environment. In a game like this, you know they’re going to make plays. It makes it fun for young guys to show they can overcome that.”

White County was led by senior Cole Sims, who posted 124 rushing yards, 3 touchdowns and an interception in the win.

Macon County struck first as Cole Hackett returned the game’s opening kick for a touchdown to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead less than 15 seconds into the contest. White County answered early in the second quarter as Sims broke loose for a 66-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 7-7.

Sims put the Warriors ahead later in the half as he punched in a one-yard touchdown rush to give the Warriors a 14-7 halftime lead.

White County extended their lead in the third quarter as Sims powered in another one-yard touchdown rush along with a Tucker Pinion 29-yard touchdown strike to Eli Smith on fourth down to give the Warriors a 28-7 lead after three quarters. Brennan Flowers rushed in a 4-yard Macon County touchdown in the fourth to make the final score 28-14 in favor of White County.

The Warriors return home next week as they host Warren County (3-3) in non-region action while Macon County travels to Stone Memorial (3-3, 0-1) in Region 4-4A play.
