The Jackson County Lady Blue Devils are the champions of District 7-1A volleyball following a pair of wins in the district tournament on Tuesday in Gainesboro.
“It was a complete team effort,” said Jackson County head coach Lucas Martin. “One match, it was one player, then the next match it was another player. “These 6 seniors have been together for 4 years now, and almost all of them playing on the same team. There’s no substitution for that type of experience.”
Jackson County defeated Clay County 3-1 in the semifinals before sweeping Red Boiling Springs 3-0 in the championship match.
After winning the first set 25-19, the Lady Blue Devils jumped out to an 11-1 lead in the second before going on to win it 25-14. Jackson County closed out the sweep in the third set via an Eva Wilson kill to win 25-15.
Senior Jules Looper was named tournament MVP along with Eva Wilson and Abbie Watson being named all-tournament.
Both teams advance to next week’s Region 4-1A semifinal round against Trousdale County and East Robertson. Matchups, game times and dates TBD.
