The Gordonsville Tigers (7-1, 3-0) locked up the #1 overall seed in Region 4-2A on Friday as they won at Trousdale County, 42-0.
“Our kids played extremely hard and executed the game plan well,” said Gordonsville head coach Stephen Jackson. “I’m excited for them. Coach Adam Shaw came up with a great defensive game plan and the kids executed.”
Gordonsville WR/DB Waylon Kennedy returned a punt for a touchdown and intercepted a pass in the win. Turner Bucher rushed for 67 yards and 2 touchdowns on 7 carries for the Tigers.
“We thought we could get an explosive play on a punt return,” said Jackson. “It’s huge to get something on the special teams and take it to the house.”
After forcing a three-and-out on Trousdale’s opening drive, Gordonsville took their first possession to the end zone as Kaiden Mason punched in a one-yard touchdown to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead with 5:54 left in the first quarter.
Gordonsville scored twice in the second period as Bucher rushed in a 15-yard score before quarterback Cruze Frye took a keeper 7 yards around the right side for a touchdown, making the score 21-0 at halftime.
Kennedy opened the third quarter with a 65-yard punt return for a touchdown to extend Gordonsville’s lead to 28-0. Bucher and Caden Potter found the end zone in the fourth quarter to make the final score 42-0.
Gordonsville is off next Friday before traveling to Red Boiling Springs on Oct. 23.
