Five teams from Putnam County earned a spot in the perspective brackets to play for the state championship.
In the first game, the 5/6 Grade Lady Redskins squared off with county rival, UMS Lady Yellow Jackets, with Algood capturing the crown.
In game two, the Algood 5/6 Boys took on a very good team from Mt. Juliet. The Redskins hung tight in the first half, but the wheels fell off in the first four minutes of the second half and Mt. Juliet never looked back. Downing Algood to take the title.
Game three, the Algood 7/8 Grade Lady Redskins took on Northside Middle School and came home with the Gold Ball winning the state championship by 13 points 41 – 28.
In the final game of the night, the 7/8 Grade Raiders, from Avery Trace Middle School, mauled Walter J. Baird 37 – 22 to bring home the Golden Ball. Winning the 4A Boys Middle School State Championship!
Congrats to the players and coaches from Algood 5/6 girls, Algood 7/8 Girls and ATMS 7/8 boys on their winning championships. Also congrats to Algood 5/6 boys and 5/6 UMS girls for coming in runner-ups in their divisions.
