Twin Lakes Designated A Certified Gig-Capable Provider And Smart Rural Community

Posted By: uppercumberlandreporter May 24, 2019

Gainesboro, TN. – May 2019 – Twin Lakes has been recognized by NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association as a Certified Gig-Capable Provider for delivering gigabit broadband speeds and enabling technological innovation in their serving areas. At the same time, the areas served by Twin Lakes have been designated a Smart Rural Community by NTCA.

As a Certified Gig-Capable Provider, Twin Lakes joins a national campaign to build awareness and industry recognition of community-based telecom providers that have built communications networks capable of delivering Internet speeds up to 1 gigabit per second, which is 100 times faster than those currently available in many U.S. households. Smart Rural Community designation is given to telecommunications companies that build broadband networks throughout their service areas and provide technological innovation to the residents and businesses there. NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association is the premier association representing nearly 900 independent, community-based telecommunications companiesthat drive innovation in rural and small-town America.

To achieve Gig-Capable certification, companies must show that gigabit technology is commercially available within 95% of one or more areas within its serving territory and that such service can be provided without new trenching or stringing new aerial facilities. You can learn more about the NTCA Gig-Capable Provider certification program at www.ntca.org/gigcertified.

The Smart Rural Community designation is achieved via a rigorous application process. The award recognizes Twin Lakes for its advanced infrastructure—not available in many more highly populated areas—and for providing technology that has bred innovation and ensures communities and businesses thrive.Twin Lakes serves 1,950 square miles and a population of more than 67,348 with the most advanced broadband technology available today. NTCA defines a Smart Rural Community as one that “uses broadband networks to enable applications that the community can leverage for innovative economic development and commerce, blue-ribbon education, first-rate health care, cutting-edge government services, robust security and more efficient energy distribution and use.” More information about the NTCA’s Smart Rural Community award can be obtained here: https://www.ntca.org/member-services/programs/smart-rural-community.

“The board and employees of Twin Lakes are thrilled to receive both the Gig-Capable provider designation and the Smart Rural Community award,” says Jonathan West, General Manager/CEO of Twin Lakes. “Our team has worked tirelessly to serve our communities with the fastest, most reliable fiber Internet network available today, and these designations are a fitting recognition of our efforts on behalf of our customers.”
