Childers’ Hat Trick Leads LA Over Kingston

by Rusty Ellis

The Livingston Academy Lady Wildcats will host the Region 3AA Championship on Thursday after defeating Kingston 6-1 on Tuesday evening.

LA star Taryn Childers put together another big game for the Lady Wildcats, as she scored within the match’s first two minutes to give Livingston an early 1-0 lead. Penalty kicks from Childers and Ella Copeland led to a 3-0 lead at the half for Livingston, who put a lot of pressure on the Kingston keeper early and often in the first half.

The dam appeared to finally break in the second half, as Childers and Copeland each added goals in the second half. Add in a third penalty kick from Sienna Milligan, and the Lady Wildcats used six goals to down Kingston 6-1 in dominant fashion.

As far as what coach Heather Marshall had to say about the team’s effort, she chalked a lot of it up to the girls coming out fast and creating chances to score early.

“We came out ready to play, and we were prepared for this,” Marshall said. “We prepared for it over the weekend, so I’m really proud of the girls for coming out and playing a really good 80 minutes.”

The scoring chances Livingston created in the first half are a major part of why they were able to break through in the second half, as Marshall says they were just able to wear down the defensive front of Kingston.

“When you get so many shots on goal, eventually they’re going to drop,” Marshall said. “As the scoreboard shows, we got six to drop tonight.”

It may be hard to nit-pick, but Marshall still believes there’s another gear this team can reach as the season hits the home stretch. They’ll see a familiar foe on Thursday against Anderson County, and she says the team will have to play its best defensive game in order to win.

“They’re a tough opponent,” Marshall said. “They’ve got some really good speed up top, and in the middle, we’re going to need to be communicating the entire way if we want to beat Anderson County.”

Again, the Lady Wildcats will be back in action on Thursday against Anderson County at 6 P.M. in the Region 3AA Championship.
