After nearly two hours worth of weather delays, the Cookeville Cavaliers clinched their spot in tomorrow’s Region 4-3A soccer championship via a 3-2 win over Rockvale in the semifinals.
The Cavaliers overcame a 2-0 second-half deficit with two goals in the final 20 minutes to force overtime. The first Cavalier goal came from Lane Kennedy followed by a Brayden Gallagher header off a free kick to tie the game at 2-2 with 10 minutes remaining.
Gallagher stepped up again in overtime with a Cookeville goal off a free kick to give the Cavs a 3-2 lead and ultimately the overtime victory.
Up next for Cookeville is the Region 4-3A championship game at Siegel on Thursday.
Cookeville will play in Saturday’s sectional round against Cleveland or Howard regardless of Thursday’s outcome. A win Thursday against Siegel will see the Cavs host the loser of Cleveland/Howard, while a Thursday loss will have the Cavaliers travel to the winner.
