Upperman Volleyball Sweeps Match At York Institute, 3-0

By Michael Lindsay

The Upperman Lady Bees (7-2) earned their fifth sweep of the season Tuesday afternoon as they traveled to Jamestown and defeated the York Dragonettes, 3-0.

“We had a big win on Monday, and I think we came out a little slow tonight,” said Upperman head coach Tori Permenter. “York is a good program and we had to work hard on every single play. I’d like to see more consistency, and I think in the second and third set we kicked it in gear.”

Upperman overcame a 21-17 deficit in the first set to win 25-22 before cruising to 25-10 and 25-14 victories in the second and third.

“Our hitters got things going for us,” said Permenter. “Presley Hickman led us in kills and freshman Josi Bush came in and stepped up when we needed her to. My defense was locked in and we got the job done.”

The Lady Bees are off on Wednesday before returning to action on Friday against White County for an in-school match against White County at 1:30 p.m.

“That’s going to be my first in-school match, so that’s going to be different,” said Permenter. “It’ll get the community involved, and Baxter is a really strong community.”
