The Upperman Lady Bees (29-11) put a bow on a historic 2025 campaign Wednesday afternoon in Murfreesboro as they fell to Chuckey Doak 3-1 in the Class 2A state tournament consolation round.
“This is just the start of something great,” said Upperman head coach Tori Permenter. “We’re really young; what a turnaround season we had to go from winning 8 games to making a state run. I’m proud of them for not giving up and putting up a fight.”
Upperman finishes the season as the District 7-2A champions and Region 4-1A champions while making the Class 2A state tournament for the third time in school history during Permenter’s first season in Baxter.
The Lady Bees will lose 5 seniors to graduation going into next season including Madison Ellis, Launa Smallwood, Addison Phy, Adriana Hayes and Bailey West.
“I’m really proud of the seniors,” said Permenter. “They did every role exactly how they needed and are a selfless group. I’m glad we made it to state and got them a district and region championship along the way. They’re going to go out and add to the world, and. I can’t wait to see what they do after volleyball. I’m proud of the people they’ve become.”
