The Pickett County Bobcats and Lady Bobcats stayed undefeated in District 7-1A play Friday afternoon as they swept a pair of games at Clay County.
Zoey Nicholas led the girls with 2o points as her Lady Bobcats won 67-29 while a 20-point outing from Nathaniel Cobb led the Boys to a 64-50 victory.
In girls action, Pickett County (10-9, 3-0) led 17-11 after one quarter and extend their lead to double digits (21-11) via a Star White three-pointer with 4:55 remaining in the second quarter. Pickett County took a 27-13 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Lady Bobcats opened the third quarter on a 6-0 run in the first 1:04 to go up 33-13. Pickett led 43-23 after three quarters before outscoring Clay County 24-6 in the fourth quarter to win by a 67-29 final score.
Along with 20 points by Nicholas, White finished with 13 and Addy Lowe scored 12. Ella Eads led Clay County with 11 points.
Pickett County improves to 10-9 overall and 3-0 in District 7-1A play while Clay County drops to 9-7 and 1-2.
In boys action, a strong fourth quarter led the TSWA Class 1A #2-ranked Bobcats to a 64-50 win after trailing late in the third quarter.
Clay County led 17-13 after one quarter and led by as many as 6 points (19-13) in the second period before Pickett County stormed back to tie the game at 32 points each entering halftime.
A transition layup by Clay County’s Nolan Adams gave the Bulldogs a 40-38 lead with 4 minutes remaining in the third quarter. Pickett Count answered with back-to-back baskets by Brody Pryor to take a 42-40 lead with 3:21 left in the period.
Pickett County led 46-44 entering the fourth quarter, where they grew their lead to double digits (58-48) via a Cobb transition layup with 1:53 remaining. The Bobcat held on from there to win by a 64-50 margin.
Along with 20 points from Cobb, Pryor tacked on 15 for the Bobcats. Nolan Adams led Clay County with 20 points followed by 16 from Cole Eads.
Pickett County improves to 20-2 overall and 3-0 in district action while Clay County falls to 8-8 and 1-2.
Up next for Pickett County is more District 7-1 action as Jackson County travels to Byrdstown for a top-3 ranked boys matchup on Tuesday. Clay County is scheduled to host Clarkrange on Tuesday as well.
