Cookeville Girls Take Down Coffee County In District 6-4A Championship, 60-54; Allie Gillies Named Tournament MVP

The Cookeville Lady Cavaliers (25-3, 7-1) wrapped up their third district tournament championship in four years as they defeated host-school Coffee County in the District 6-4A title game on Monday, 60-54.

District tournament MVP Allie Gillies led the way with 20 points followed by 12 from Cara Lee Gilbert and 11 by Charlie Roby.

Cookeville led 11-4 after one quarter before Coffee County reeled off an 8-0 run to take a 12-11 lead early in the second period. After trading leads throughout the second period, the Lady Cavaliers entered the locker room with a 24-23 advantage.

The Lady Cavs pushed their lead out to 37-32 after three quarters and led by double figured early in the fourth. Coffee County pulled back within 3 points (57-54) with 10 seconds left, but Charlie Roby hit a free throw to put the game on ice at 58-54. Lauren Gillies tacked on two more free throws before the buzzer to make the final score 60-54 in favor of Cookeville.

Up next for the Lady Cavaliers is the Region 4-4A quarterfinal round at home on Friday against Walker Valley (5-22, 2-8).
