The Cumberland County Jets won their fourth consecutive boys soccer district championship on Thursday as they defeated Livingston in the District 7-2A title game, 4-0.
Cumberland County has won 6 of the last 7 district titles dating back to the 2019 season.
“The seniors have won every year since they were freshmen,” said Cumberland County head coach Cub Whitson. “A lot of them played roles in every single one of them. They’ve been such a huge part of our program every single year and all the success that we have had.”
Sophomore Brody Harshaw scored two goals along with one by Graham Davidson and Uziel Jimenez. Davidson recorded two assists followed by one from Jimenez, while keeper Iain Gargac pitched a shutout in the net.
“Brody Hartshaw’s been on fire,” said Whitson. “He’s been dangerous all season. I challenged Graham and Uziel at halftime and they both responded with a goal and an assist.
“District wise, I feel like it’s the best we’ve ever done defensively,” added Whitson. “We’ve had one goal scored on us in 8 district games.”
The Jets scored once in the first half as Harshaw tapped in a rebound in front of the net to give Cumberland County a 1-0 halftime advantage.
“They play with lot of a lot of physicality,” said Whitson. “They did a good job of just frustrating our boys, and we had to get our composure back.
Davidson struck next at the 22:08 remaining mark of the second half followed by Jimenez at 13:06 and Harshaw’s second at 7:31 to make the final score 4-0.
Cumberland County advances to the Region 4-2A semifinals on Monday, where they’ll host the District 8-2A runners-up Tullahoma.
