The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association released their school classifications by sport for the upcoming 2027-’29 cycle on Tuesday, and with it come multiple changes in the Upper Cumberland.

Jackson County basketball, baseball and softball are set to move back up to Class 2A from Class 1A. Multiple volleyball programs are changing, including Stone Memorial jumping up to Class 3A, York Institute moving up to Class 2A and White County falling from Class 3A to 2A.

Each team’s football, basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball classifications are listed below with a link to every sport and enrollment information from TSSAA at the bottom. Changes for area teams are listed in bold.

Schools will have until Friday, October 2, 2026 to notify the state office of their wish to move up in any of the above classification plans or notify the state office of their intent to withdraw from the TSSAA football playoffs for the upcoming cycle. School administrators were emailed a link to the online form to be used to make these declarations.

Once the deadline passes, the state office staff, with input from Board members, will set districts and regions and post them to the TSSAA website when complete. Schools that disagree with their placement will have the opportunity to request an appeal before the Board of Control at the November scheduled meeting.

Scheduling meetings for 2027-29 must take place after the November meeting of the Board of Control.
