Pedestrian in Last Week’s Hit and Run Has Died

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 22, 2016 UPDATE: Pedestrian in Last Week’s Hit and Run has Died Cookeville, TN – As reported earlier, a motorist observed a man lying on the south side of 10th Street just east of Washington Avenue last Wednesday evening, September 14, at approximately 10:00 p.m. Officers arrived and discovered the man was critically injured.  The man, now identified as 26 yearold Samuel Florea, was airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. Mr. Florea died yesterday, September 22, as a result of his injuries. The Cookeville Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in learning what occurred in this area during the minutes before being notified of this incident.  Evidence suggests Mr. Florea had been walking northward on Washington Avenue from the area of 1st Street minutes prior to being discovered lying in the grass. It is possible that Mr. Florea was struck by a vehicle while he was attempting to cross 10th Street. The Cookeville Police Department is attempting to locate a vehicle that was seen traveling east on 10th Street from Mr. Florea’s location.  That vehicle is described as a dark colored SUV.  It may have minor damage to the front bumper/hood area or the driver’s side door mirror. Anyone who might have seen Mr. Florea as he walked on Washington Avenue or a dark colored SUV in the area shortly before 10:00pm, is requested to contact Detective Ryan Acuff at (931)…
