Putnam County 4-H’ers Compete in Region Clover Bowl Contest

How many of the presidents from Tennessee where born here? If you were a member of a 4-H Clover Bowl team, you would already know the answers to this question. It’s simple, the answer is none, they were born before Tennessee was a state.

Clover Bowl is a fast-paced quiz game similar to high school academic teams. 4-H members study questions in four areas: 4-H, Tennessee, Agriculture and Family and Consumer Sciences. A game consists of 2 rounds and 16 questions. The first round is the toss up round, each team member is asked 2 questions. The second round is the speed round were 8 questions are asked and the first to buzz in gets to answer. Clover Bowl has separate divisions for each grade 4th through 8th. Contests were held at the club or school level and then county and region level. This year around 100 4-H members competed on Clover Bowl teams in Putnam County with teachers and parents serving as coaches for the teams. Without the hard work and support of our 4-H teachers, school principals and support staff, this contest would not be so successful.

After some hard fought games, winners were determined in 4th – 8th grades. The county winners in each grade were: 4th Grade – Ms. Nichols’ class at Sycamore, 5th Grade – Home School Team, 6th Grade – Home School Team, 7th & 8th Grade – Home School Team. Each of these teams went on to compete against teams from 31 counties across our region at the Region Contest held on the campus of Tennessee Tech during May. The 4th grade team was made it to the final four, 5th grade team made it to the second round, 6th grade team was region champions and 7th and 8th grade team was region champions. Congratulations to all of our Clover Bowl teams.
