Miss Basketball Winners

MURFREESBORO – – -The winner of the Class AA Miss Basketball Award was announced at the conclusion of the championship game today at Murphy Center.

Kayla Marosites from Elizabethton was named Miss Basketball for 2015.  The other two finalists were Callie Hackett from Smith County High School and Anna Hammaker of Christian Academy of Knoxville.

Marosites is a 5’10”, junior guard for the Fighting Cyclones.  She is a three year starter who averages 21.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 4.3 steals per game.  She shoots 54.8% from the field, 45.2% from three-point range, and 86.4% from the free throw line.  This season, both Kayla and her twin sister Kelci both surpassed the 1,000 career point mark.  She has been both an All-District and All-Region selection as a freshman and sophomore.  She was a member of the all-tournament team at the state tournament as a freshman and was MVP last season as a sophomore.

MURFREESBORO – – -The winner of the Class A Miss Basketball Award was announced at the conclusion of the championship game today at Murphy Center.
Abbey Dew from Houston County was named Miss Basketball for 2015.  The other two finalists were Lakelyn Bouldin from Van Buren County High School and Averyale Joy of Middleton High School.

Dew is a 5’7”, senior guard for the Fighting Irish.  She is a four year starter who averages 19 points, three rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 3.5 steals per game.  She shoots 52% from the field, 31% from three-point range, and 72% from the free throw line.  This season she was named the District 10-A MVP. Abbey has been named to both the All-District and District All-Tournament teams each year of her high school career.  She was an All-Region pick last year as a junior.

Crystal Dangerfield from Blackman High School was named Miss Basketball for 2015.  The other two finalists were Brandi Beasley from Ridgeway High School and Alex Johnson of Blackman High School.

Dangerfield is a 5’6”, junior, point guard.  She is a three year starter for the Blaze who averages 16 points, 6.4 assists, and three steals per game.  She shoots 46% from the field and 79% from the free throw line.  Last season she was a finalist for the Class AAA Miss Basketball Award and was named the Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year.  Crystal was an All-State selection as a freshman.  She was also named to the All-District, All-Region, and All-State teams as a sophomore and was MVP of the 2014 state tournament.  Crystal passed the 1,000 point mark of her career this season.
