Monterey Calling For Christmas Parade Entries

Santa Claus will be coming to the mountain in a big way! The Monterey Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Monterey Civitan Club, the Monterey Lions Club, the Monterey Garden Club, the Monterey FCE Club, the Monterey VFW and the Town of Monterey will be Saturday, December 5, at 6:30 p.m. 

The parade will form on E, Commercial Ave., in front of the Monterey High School construction site, beginning at 5 p.m.The parade route will proceed west on Commercial Ave.; south on Poplar; east on Depot; south on Holly; east on Stratton; breaking up near the Monterey Dairy Queen and Volunteer Energy Cooperative.

Float competition will be judged in five divisions: 1. Religious, 2. Private groups, 3. Community Based Clubs, 4. Commercial and 5. Industrial. Cash prizes of $100, $75 and $50 will be awarded to first, second and third place finishers in the religious, community based clubs and private groups. Trophies for first, second and third place will be awarded for entries in the commercial and industrial divisions. Float sponsors must be clearly visible on the entry to facilitate judging. Winners will be announced at the Monterey Depot Museum immediately following the parade.

The theme for the parade is the same as ever: CHRISTMAS. 

This year’s parade grand marshals will be Monterey Fire Chief Kevin Peters and wife, Robin. The Peters   the mountain.
At the Monterey Depot Museum, before the parade, at 6 a.m., special Christmas music will be provided by the McKeon family. Directly after the parade, Santa will arrive to visit with the children. Parents, bring your kids and cameras.

Safety and liability issues prohibit the throwing of candy and other treats by parade participants. Violators will be removed from the parade.

Antique car entries must be 25 years or older, have no loud mufflers or racing engines. Four and three wheelers are prohibited unless towing a float. City ordinances pertaining to noise will be strictly enforced by the Monterey Police Department.
