JR Cavs Cross Country Compete At State

 

JR CAVS CROSS COUNTRY COMPETE AT STATE

The JR CAVS middle school cross country team culminated their 2015 season this past Saturday at the Tennessee State Middle School Championships at Victor Ashe Park in Knoxville.  The meet saw 1700 runners between both the elementary and middle school races, setting a meet record.  Racing against 294 runners from across the state, 7th grader, Landri Wilcox, finished in an impressive 8th place in the girls’ varsity 2-mile race with a time of 12:58 With her All-State Team performance, Wilcox became the highest finisher at the state meet in team history.  The girls team qualified for the meet as the Mid-State Region Runner-Up.  Scoring for the girls varsity team 19th place finish out of 26 teams at the state meet in addition to leader Wilcox were Maddie Long, Mary Hajdik, Emily Coonce, and Katy Beth O’Dell. 

The boys team came into the state meet as Mid-State Region Champions.  Leading the way for the boys team was 8th grader, Reece Wearing with a 78th place finishing time of 13:04 Completing the scoring for the boys 15th place team finish out of 30 complete teams from across the state were Carson Evans, Jacob Smith, Austin McCowan, and Deacon Jones. 

Other JR CAV state meet highlights included a 5th place team finish for the girls JV team with Annie Kate McDermott leading the way with a top 20 finish.  Also recognized for top 20 finishes in the boys JV race were Kaden Williams and Maddox Beaty.

The JR CAVS have made an appearance at the state meet for the past nine years since the team began in 2007.  While congratulating all of the runners for a great 2015 season, Coach Chris Mussard also looks forward to coaching the team well into the future preparing these young runners for high school and beyond.
