Monterey Dinner Theater
The Monterey Dinner Theater has been celebrating our town’s history for about 7 years with story telling around the dinner table. Isn’t that the best way to tell our stories by sitting around the table having a meal with friends and family? This year on November 14 at 6 pm at the Monterey Community Center, we will be sharing our story about our town of Monterey during the 1960’s. We would like to invite you, your family and friends to come sit around our table and let us entertain you with a little bit of our history. Monterey was growing and progress was taking place. Change was coming but the people remained the same. Every town has that restaurant where the coffee flows and so does the talk. The Cup and Saucer Restaurant was the place to hang out especially if you worked at Ely and Walker sewing factory, or you were hoping that special “someone” would be there to buy you an ice cream cone. There could be a doctor or nurse from Monterey Hospital sitting on one of the stools at the counter. You can hear the Tennessee Central engine when they blow that whistle as it pulls to a stop at the depot. Our one and only police chief, N.K. Matthews usually drops by for some coffee and the latest news. The two waitress, Barbie Jean and Jeanette, are waiting to serve you up a nice big juicy homemade burger or maybe some pie and ice cream. The radio is always playing out those tunes from the 60’s which the students from MHS just love. You never know who is going to drop by or what kind of story they want to share with us.
Who was the couple who met and fell in love at the Cup and Saucer? This and more you can find out when you come sit at our table and hear our stories.
