Sparta Manufacturer Announces New Safer Bathtub

Rane Bathing Systems Introduces Hudson Easy Access Bathtub

Made in US, Bathtub Reduces Bathroom Falls and Injuries – SPARTA, Tenn., August 9, 2016 –

Rane Bathing Systems, an American manufacturer of healthcare facility and residential bathtubs, today announced the release of its Hudson Easy Access Bathtub. The new bathtub features a cantilevered transfer ledge and a recessed rim designed to prevent falls that can occur while getting in and out of the bathtub.

The Hudson Easy Access Bathtub was developed following extensive studies by the Center for Studies in Aging that show a large amount of bathroom falls happen while entering and exiting the bathtub, particularly while stepping over the rim of the tub.Rane’s new bathtub features reduce the potential to fall by allowing the bather to sit on the ledge, move their legs over the tub rim, and lower themselves down into the tub to bathe.

The Hudson Easy Access Bathtub includes the following features: • Recessed rim: swinging one’s legs over a standard tub rim can cause the bather to become unstable and fall back; the 1.5” drop in the rim considerably decreases the tendency to fall backwards by allowing the heels to remain below the rear • Transfer ledge: provides a place to sit when moving legs over the rim and into the tub; gives those who find getting down into a tub to be physically challenging with assistance in getting halfway • Extra width: (with overall dimensions of 33” x 60” x 19”) increased span of the tub allows the bather to turn over into a kneeling position, from which it is easier to stand • Steeper walls and smaller radius: the angled walls and resulting larger radius between the walls and basin bottom of standard bathtubs are another frequent cause of falls in the bathroom • Easy renovation or replacement: footprint of the tub meets the specifications of common residential bathroom design, allowing for easy installation in most homes as well as commercial spaces.

“According to the National Institute on Aging, more than one in three people over the age of 65 fall each year and 80 percent of these falls are in the bathroom,” said Richard Pieper, general manager of Rane. “Our new Hudson Easy Access Bathtub makes it easier and safer for people to get in and out of a bathtub. Rane’s bathing systems for healthcare facilities and residential use continue to evolve as we learn more about patient safety; we create and adapt products to adjust to consumer needs. This is exactly the case with our new bathtub.”
