COOKEVILLE – If you notice groups of folks peeking in and around WestSide businesses on Jan. 12, don’t worry – they’re just scavengers.

Cookeville Leisure Services’ seventh annual WestSide Scavenger Hunts will take place Jan. 12, Feb. 9 and March 9 starting at the Cookeville Depot Museum. Participation is free.

“We want to get people outside and exploring this historic part of town, even if you have to bundle up,” Ashley McKee, Cookeville museums education specialist, said.

Entry forms, which include thumbnail images and clues, are available at the depot between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Participants need a digital camera or cell phone.

“We take a picture of a permanent fixture in the sponsoring businesses and put together a list of creative clues,” McKee said. “The scavengers then have to go out, hunt and recreate the images with their own cameras. Sounds pretty fun, right?”

Those completing the scavenger hunt will be entered in a prize drawing.

“We assemble a giant gift basket to give to the winner,” McKee said.

WestSide Scavenger Hunts attract families, student groups and more for a fun and educational walk around the historic district.

“It appeals to all ages,” McKee said.

Refreshments will be served at the depot, 116 W. Broad St. For more information, call 931-528-8570.
