Happy Weekend!

Congratulations to all the graduates out there! Wishing you all the best in life always!

We have a very busy weekend ahead with something for everyone – sorry, this has to be a long email to include everything that I know of. Take note that May 18 is Free Dump Day/SPRING CLEAN-UP DAY 2019 (details in the link provided) and June 15 is Hazardous Waste Day. Please take advantage of these dates and let’s make Pickett County look even better than it does. Saturday is also the Rabies Clinics: 9-10AM at Moodyville Cash Store and 10:30-11:30AM at PCHS. May 21 is Commodity Distribution in Pickett County from 9-11AM. May 18-24 is also National Safe Boating Week! Be safe out there!

Several of the local restaurants are staying open late tonight to accommodate the crowds after graduation and some have specials for the graduates. Dixie Cafe will have live music tonight and Saturday night. Forbus General Store is having a Fish FRYday from 4PM-8PM every FRIDAY – Pickin on the Porch May 18 from 12-4PM too. The Country Kitchen will have live music on Saturday evening provide by Slick Nickel and a dress contest that you can learn more about from the post on their page. Be sure to check out the great food and specials at our other local restaurants! They are ready to serve you! You can find a list of area eateries here- check them out soon!

Local author, Jude Urbanski will have a book signing on Saturday, May 18th from 11AM-2PM at Rustic Roots Boutique. Be sure to stop by and pick up her latest book.

THE CHILI and CORNBREAD COOK-OFF IS SATURDAY, MAY 18 AT GOOD NEIGHBORS THEATRE FROM 3-6PM!  They will have Live music by Olds 88, carnival like games for all ages, vendors and all you can eat until it runs out chili and cornbread! All for $10 admission!

Honest Jon’s BBQ is having live music Saturday evening as well! The music starts at 5:30PM. They are also doing a drawing for a whole boston butt for Memorial Day weekend – which is NEXT WEEKEND! Check their page for details!

The Friends of Cordell Hull will have their Annual Meeting On Saturday June 8 from 5-6PM at the Park. An RSVP by June 1 would be greatly appreciated. The meeting is open to anyone interested. The organization will be providing snacks.

Great news! Our new fold out County Maps are IN!!! We ask that you please not take more than 2 per person. We only have a very limited number. The online version should be available very soon as well. They look awesome! I have also FINALLY (think) I have completed the Chamber Memberpage. Please, if you are a chamber member, check it out and let me know if you see changes that need to be made – just reply to this message. Include pictures if needed and text preferred. Thank you!

DAV Meets the 2nd Saturday of each month! All veterans are invited to come and visit and decide if they want to participate. They will meet at the Welcome Center at 9:30AM.
American Legion meets every 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7 P.M. at the Dixie Cafe.
Chamber Board May Meeting will be on Thursday, June 13 @ 11AM at Pier 42 Restaraunt

Historical & Genealogical Meeting May 18 @ 6PM at the Pickett Co. Library
County Commission Meets on May 20 and June 17 at 6PM at the Pickett Co. Library.

The Pickett County Library is great free resource anytime of year.  They have loads of books, videos, cd’s, and so much more.  Their Genealogy Room is also a good place to go and get to know where you came from.  If it weren’t for our ancestors’ hard work, we wouldn’t enjoy the life we have today.  The Cordell Hull Birthplace & Museum State Park has a fantastic exhibit as well as a very nice trail to be enjoyed year round.

Against the Flow Kayak Outfitters can set you up with a nice Kayak or offer you a tour. Our area marinas have a variety of water sport activities to offer and a whole lot more.

If you are planning to be married on Dale Hollow Lake, remember The Farm at East Port Marina & Resort event venue with a capacity of seating 300 people are here to help!

If you are looking for places to shop, remember our local stores.  Drop by see what all they have to offer – after all, you will save time by not driving so far to browse.  This is a brief list of our Chamber Member businesses at this time that offer shopping.Carobella Salon, SpaRustic Roots Boutique, Teased Salon & Spa Sells Family StoreMa & Pa’s Gift ShackCountry Farm & Home CenterDavidson’s Discount Drugs, and Garrett’s Drug Center have some wonderful items to browse/purchase besides the obvious items. Dale Hollow Kwik Stop, and Dale Hollow Shell offer many convenience items and a deli, plus fishing supplies and more!
