Welcome to the weekend!

It’s time to get back to school plans finalized and take advantage of Tax Free WeekendLocal shops are ready to serve you and help make sure your students are prepared for a wonderful year. Click the link for Tax Free Weekend (above) for a list of items that qualify for the exemption and the Local Shops like for ideas. Students register on August 1st and then don’t go back until Wednesday August 7th for their first full day of classes – in part to avoid most of the hazardous traffic for students during the Hwy 127 Yard Salewhich officially starts on Thursday, August 1st as well. Be safe out there and enjoy the bargain hunting.

You are cordially invited to attend the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of Chris’ Auto Worldon Saturday, August 3 from 11AM-1PM. They will have hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks. They will also be giving away/raffling off gift certificates and gift cards and a $200.00 gift card with every purchase! Robbins Auto will be providing extra parking during the event. Show your support! Come on out and welcome them to the community!

We have also released the 2019 Fall Dale Hollow Bass Classic registration form today. You candownload a copy and be ready to send it in by August 7th for the earliest flight numbers.

Cordell Hull Birthplace State Park has several activities again this weekend! Check them out at Cordell Hull Birthplace State Park. Tonight is Fish FRYday at Forbus General Store. The Dixie Cafe will have live music on Friday night and on Saturday night, and the Country Kitchen will have live music on Saturday eveningYou can find a list of area eateries here- check them out soon!

Upcoming Meetings/Community Events:
DAV Meets the 2nd Saturday of each month! All veterans are invited to come and visit and decide if they want to participate. They will meet at the Welcome Center at 9:30AM.
American Legion meets every 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7 P.M. at the Dixie Cafe.
Board of Education Meeting: July 29 at 6:30PM at the Director of Schools Office.
County Commission Meets: Aug. 19, Sept. 16 at 6PM at the Pickett Co. Library.

The Pickett County Library is great free resource anytime of year.  They have loads of books, videos, cd’s, and so much more.  Their Genealogy Room is also a good place to go and get to know where you came from.  If it weren’t for our ancestors’ hard work, we wouldn’t enjoy the life we have today.  The Cordell Hull Birthplace & Museum State Park has a fantastic exhibit as well as a very nice trail to be enjoyed year round.

If you are planning to be married on Dale Hollow Lake, remember The Farm at East Port Marina & Resort event venue with a capacity of seating 300 people are here to help!

If you are looking for places to shop, remember our local stores.  Drop by see what all they have to offer – after all, you will save time by not driving so far to browse.  This is a brief list of our Chamber Member businesses at this time that offer shopping.Carobella Salon, SpaRustic Roots Boutique, Teased Salon & Spa Sells Family StoreMa & Pa’s Gift ShackCountry Farm & Home CenterDavidson’s Discount Drugs, and Garrett’s Drug Center have some wonderful items to browse/purchase besides the obvious items. Dale Hollow Kwik Stop, and Dale Hollow Shell offer many convenience items and a deli, plus fishing supplies and more! Spend some time at York Country StoreForbus General Storeor Moodyville Cash Store. Don’t forget Pryor’s Auto Spot and McCurdy Computers for their specialty items – as well as the convenience stores, marine supply, bike shop, marinas and more. They each have some interesting merchandise too! Hwy. 111 Wine & Spirits, Charlie’s Place and The Whistle Stop also invite you to come by. 

Finally, if you need a new to you vehicle, check out Chris’ Auto World, LLC on Main St. He has some nice looking vehicles and is ready to serve the community (and beyond).
