Spy WestSide murals during Saturday’s History Hike

COOKEVILLE – Saturday’s History Hike will be an opportunity to spy some outdoor art.

“I Spy a WestSide Mural,” a free, self-guided activity presented by Cookeville Leisure Services, will take place between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Participants may pick up entry forms at the Cookeville History Museum, 40 E. Broad St., or Cookeville Depot Museum, 116 W. Broad St.

“It’s going to be super fun,” Ashley McKee, museums education specialist, said. “We came up with it to coincide with our current Cookeville History Museum exhibit, ‘I Spy Cookeville.’”

The Historic WestSide Cultural District is home to eight murals, all within walking distance of both museums.

“Participants will walk around the WestSide and observe the art on the walls,” McKee said. “You will be given hints to find six out of eight murals. We also want you to take fun selfies and tag our museums on your social media pages.”

Those completing the History Hike may return to either museum with their cell phone or camera to have their photos checked and be entered in a prize drawing sponsored by Father Tom’s Pub.

Participants are also encouraged to explore the Cookeville History Museum’s “I Spy Cookeville” exhibit, which continues through Aug. 24, featuring picture riddles and other interactive activities for all ages. Admission is free.

History Hikes continue on the second Saturday of each month through October. For more information, call the Cookeville History Museum at 520-5455 or Cookeville Depot Museum at 528-8570.
