Pediatric Dentist Celebrates Opening of Fun New Office

Cookeville, TN–Cavity Commando’s Dentistry for Kids, owned by Cookeville residents Dr. Landon and Michelle Sears, is now open and serving pediatric patients from throughout the Upper Cumberland region.

“It truly has been an honor and blessing to have found such a wonderful community to both serve as a pediatric dentist and begin a new life in,” said Dr. Landon Sears, who moved to Cookeville after completing his 2-year pediatric specialty residency at the world-renowned Nicklaus Children’s Hospital (formerly Miami Children’s) in Miami, FL.

The 2,500 square/foot space, built by Johnson’s Builders of Doyle, TN, provides a unique and one-of-a-kind dental experience for children, with virtual reality and arcade games, and a bright and colorful decor.

“We want the kids to feel like they are going to a birthday party or a celebration. Our mission is to make dentistry fun for all of our guests.”

Cavity Commando’s is located in the brand new Shoppes at Eagle Pointe plaza at 1265 Interstate Drive, Suite 101. Each patient will be treated by Dr. Sears and his caring and gentle staff.

“We’ve heard a lot of complaints from parents who were upset that they were seen by different dentists each time they visited other offices, and weren’t sure whether they were seeing a general dentist or specialist after a referral from another office. It’s simple at our office. We believe continuity of care is crucial for patients, especially at a very young age. We also think it’s important for a pediatric dentist to live close to the community they serve—emergencies can happen at any time. It’s important to have someone close by whenever possible,” said Sears.

The state-of-the-art kid-friendly office provides three private treatment rooms, a five patient dental bay to serve children and teens, consultation rooms, administrative offices and game areas. The private rooms have special effects to create an intergalactic or underwater experience for kids to enjoy.

“We want to transform the dental experience for children in our community. When parents tell their children they are visiting the dentist, we want them to be excited and not be afraid of us — and we think this new Cookeville facility will be a commitment to that philosophy” said Sears.

Cavity Commando’s will offer convenient hours for parents to take their kids to the dentist, with evening and weekend appointments available.

“It’s difficult for us to hear parents tell us they’ve had to wait several months for a dental appointment, including for surgery with sedation or general anesthesia. We want to get patients in right away,” said Sears.

To add both convenience and availability, Dr. Sears has obtained privileges as the staff pediatric dentist at Cookeville Regional Medical Center and credentials at the Cookeville Surgery Center, where children needing dental surgery or oral rehabilitation can be treated with “sleep sedation” or general anesthesia.

“We’ve had a lot of positive feedback from the community that parents no longer need to take their children almost two hours to Nashville or Knoxville for procedures with sedation by a pediatric specialist. It is very rewarding to know that we are serving a big need in our home community, cutting down on the drive-time for parents, offering sufficient follow-up and emergency care, and making it comfortable for the kids,” said Sears.

Dr. Sears follows the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry guidelines which recommend dental visits at least once every six months, starting at age one at the latest.

Cavity Commando’s invites patients to use all forms of dental insurance, including Tenncare.
