Byrdstown-Pickett County Update April 17, 2020

Happy Friday!
Forward to a Friend

Well, as we all are aware, we are still under the Stay at Home Order until May 1, 2020 (at least). There is still much uncertainty as to how we will wind up the school year exactly. Mother’s Day, Graduation gifts (with or without the actual ceremony), Memorial Day and probably a few wedding showers (even though they might have to be virtual) are around the corner to buy gifts for if you can. Please, don’t forget our members when you shop. They are doing their best to comply with the restrictions in place and still keep their businesses afloat until better days arrive. We are unable to go out to take pictures this year. It would be so wonderful if each merchant would create their own photo album and post it to Facebook and make sure to tag us so we can share it. …time to shop is something many of us have right now from the comfort of our own homes and on our schedules. Shoppers, we also invite you to click here to get to the business listings of our members – with contact information. You can check their websites and Facebook pages from there. It’s also time to get ready to garden. Cool season crops can go in now, but since Mother Nature can’t seem to decide on which end of spring she is on – I would recommend holding off PLANTING the tender varieties a little while longer – you can go ahead and purchase them, just protect them for a few days. Country Farm and Home Center should have what you need to do whatever you desire to with your lawn and garden this year.

Remember as well that our restaurants are still open and serving plenty of delicious food! You can find their phone numbers here to give them a call and see what they have and/or place an order to go. (Look for Backyard Grill to open after the quarantine is lifted.) Support our local entrepreneurs!

The 2020 Census is underway! If you haven’t taken the time to fill out your survey, please do so soon. It is very important to our area – perfect example is the amount of money coming to Byrdstown and Pickett County as a grant to assist the area from lost revenue due to the COVID-19 virus.

Sunday, from 1-4PM at the B&K Parking Lot there will be a FREE COVID-19 Test site. If you or someone you know is in need of the testing, please check out this information.

Businesses, there is a webinar next Friday, April 23rd at 11AM – Getting Social. Patti Purdy will share insights and ideas on how to prepare for the upcoming post COVID-19 quarantine. Her previous session was quite interesting and full of ideas. I don’t have the link yet, but should soon. If you are interested, please let me know.

If ANYONE needs any help, questions answered, etc., please reach out to our office (931) 864-7195, the County Executive’s Office (931) 864-3798 or Mayor Gibson’s Office (931) 864-6215. Together, we will get through this. If you want to keep up with the latest updates, here is the link.

Stay healthy everyone!
