Byrdstown-Pickett County Updates 5/22/20

Many thanks to those that have paid the ultimate price for the rest of us! Happy Memorial Day Weekend 2020 & Welcome Summer!
Forward to a Friend

Summer vacation has officially started for many. Congratulations to ALL of our graduates! This will be a different summer with new rules to guide us as we enjoy time with family and friends. With sadness, we wish to let you know that the Annual 4th of July Celebration festivities have been postponed until Labor Day Weekend in hopes that will provide a safer environment for everyone to enjoy. HOWEVER, the fireworks will go on as usual on the 4th of July!!! (More details to come later.)

Here is a link for you to read the most current guidelines in place for Tennessee. Here is a link for those visiting our neighbors in Kentucky for the actions taken by the Governor of Kentucky during those ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic (as we have some Chamber Members located in Kentucky). With that being said, our member Sulphur Creek Marina’s Mike’s Landing Restaurant and Lounge is pleased to announce that they will finally be allowed to open beginning tonight (May 22) with limited capacity and outdoor seating! Tennessee Restaurants are open and are offering varied types of dining experiences – some have chosen to open their interiors for dine-in customers – others have chosen to limit their services to carry-out. You can find a list of our restaurants here. Just call ahead to the restaurant of choice or visit their Facebook page for more details. Unless you have some really unusual tastes, you are sure to find a dining experience that will please your palate.

Tennessee State Parks are open, yet they too have to follow the guidelines that have been set forth. Check the Cordell Hull Birthplace State Park’s calendar for information on upcoming events – several events are coming up.

Grilling time, gardening, yard work, Father’s Day and so much more are upon us, so check out the great local deals. Links for our businesses can be found here. Be sure to support our small businesses. Think local when you think about shopping for any reason.

As you are preparing for Memorial Day/Decoration, don’t forget all the gorgeous arrangements and other items that Joyce & Connie of Ma & Pa’s Flowers and Gifts has to offer! They are here to serve you with so much “beautifulness” year round – whatever the need. For just a little while longer, Rustic Roots Boutique has expanded (Rustic Roots Boutique Expansion) for the Memorial Day season. They have a huge line of unique and gorgeous Memorial Day flowers, saddles, wreathes and wind chimes! These items are located in the old bank building across the street from the Dixie Cafe. Stop by (pop-up hours) or contact Rustic Roots Boutique to arrange a time to shop.

We were finally able to have our monthly Chamber Board of Directors meeting recently at the Dixie Cafe. Among other things, we decided that if things kept improving we would likely start the Business of the Week program back up sometime in June. BUT WE NEED YOUR INPUT!!! If you are a Chamber Member and have not done so yet, please fill out our survey. You can access the survey hereAlso, if any business is following the Tennessee Pledge rules and would like a poster to put up, stop by our office and let us know.

Anglers, the Spring Dale Hollow Bass Classic is next weekend! May 30-31, 2020 out of Sunset Marina & Resort! If you don’t have your entry in or want to wait until the morning of the 30th, get your calendars marked and ready.

If ANYONE needs any help, questions answered, etc., please reach out to our office (931) 864-7195, the County Executive’s Office (931) 864-3798 or Mayor Gibson’s Office (931) 864-6215.

Stay healthy everyone!
