The Sofia Goodman Group is Bringing Jazz Funk Fusion to Dogwood Park

Third Thursday concert July 16: Sofia Goodman Group

COOKEVILLE – The Sofia Goodman Group is bringing jazz funk fusion to Dogwood Park.

The concert, part of Cookeville Leisure Services’ Third Thursday in the Park summer concert series, is July 16 at 7:30 p.m. at 30 E. Broad St. Admission is free, and concessions are available.

Led by drummer and composer Sofia Goodman, the Nashville-based group released its debut album, “Myriad of Flowers,” in 2018 and has performed at notable festivals like The Alex City Jazz Fest, USM Jazz and Blues Fest, Fort Harrod Jazz Fest, West Georgia Jazz Fest and Jazz on the Point.

“I think folks enjoy Third Thursday concerts because we provide a variety of free music throughout the summer, and the setting of the park in the evening is very nice,” Chad McDonald, Cookeville Leisure Services cultural arts superintendent, said.

Seating is limited to maintain social distancing. Marked areas on the performance pavilion lawn and tiered seating area are six feet apart. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Masks are recommended.

The summer’s final Third Thursday concert is planned for Aug. 20 featuring Clearview Bluegrass.

The series is also made possible by the Cookeville Arts Council.
