Byrdstown – Pickett County Updates Sept. 4, 2020

Happy Labor Day Weekend!

It’s hard to believe that summer 2020 is quickly coming to a close. Don’t forget to come to town on Saturday evening and enjoy the “Night of Music” being sponsored by the Town of Byrdstown from 7-10PM at the pavilion across from Town Hall. “Crossfire” will be the band. Food vendors will be there and everyone is encouraged to wear their mask and be socially distant while you enjoy the evening. Bring your chair, blanket, etc. to be comfortable. The weather should be nice following the passage of the cold front today with lows overnight Friday and Saturday to be in the 50’s.

We would like to welcome our newest Chamber Members: Dale Hollow Outdoors and Southern Dreams Bakery! Thank you for joining the Chamber and we wish you the best in the years to come! Head on over to their pages and give them a like and welcome them to the community!

Coming up this weekend: Obey River Grill at East Port Marina is having BrainBlast Trivia on Friday evenings each week until the marina closes for the season on November 1. They have something planned for the entire holiday weekend with live music and delicious food. There will be live music at the Dixie Cafe (yummy specials too) and on Friday night. Forbus General Store has Fish Fryday – Friday. York Country Store is having an all you care to eat catfish special on Friday and Saturday evenings. Bald Rock Package, LLC has live music tonight – Friday. The Backyard Grill will have corn hole games set up and specials this weekend plus Sunday will be their first Sunday to be open from 11-3 with their new Sunday menu. Ritter Family Farms will be at the Farmers Market on Saturday with fresh local produce (also on Thursdays). Make sure you check out the many other wonderful places to grab a bite to eat in the area. You can find our members here: www.dalehollow.com/dine. K & S Farms will be open this weekend for visitors. Saturday 11-4, Sunday 1-5 and Monday 11-4. Come look around and enjoy the experience and if you are so inclined – check out the wonderful lavender products in their new store.

Cordell Hull Birthplace State Park has several events/workshops/activities in the coming days. Check the Cordell Hull Birthplace State Park calendar here. The Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area will have their “Haunted in the Hills Storytelling Festival” this year, just in a little different style. Get the details here.

The Town of Byrdstown 3k/5k Walk/Run will have task force members Carolyn Franklin and Gloria Frances out and about in the coming weeks to collect sponsorship monies for the event. A great big “THANK YOU!” to all who help support this effort and the work of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Remember! Good Neighbors Theatre has opted to do a “Social Distancing Gala” this year and are taking donations for the Rollercoaster Yard Sale in October. They can really use your help. The Fall Dale Hollow Bass Classic will be held the weekend of November 14 & 15, 2020. Drop us a reply if you want a copy to print yourself or we will be mailing to past participants soon.
