The White County Warriors will look to earn their sixth win of the season Friday when they host the Goodpasture Cougars.

The Warriors (5-3) are eager to take the field after their scheduled week 10 matchup against Macon County was cancelled and have an opportunity to continue their four-game winning streak against the Cougars (6-2, 2-2).

“It’s been a good week,” said WCHS head coach Mark Frasier. “We had an ordeal there Friday night in Macon County. They’ve had a good week so far. We’re going to be ready to play.”

The game will not be the Warriors final game of the regular season, as they have added a road game against the Green Hill Hawks on Saturday, November 7 at 3:30 p.m.

Goodpasture has enjoyed a strong 2020 season, with two losses coming against powerhouses CPA and Lipscomb Academy. The Cougars topped the Warriors 27-11 in 2019 in a game closer than the score appeared. Frasier said despite a coaching change at Goodpasture, many of the players and schemes remain familiar.

“There are a lot of the same guys as last year,” said Frasier. “Everyone is a team older and a year better. They throw the ball well. It’s a similar system to last year, they just run everything a lot smoother. They want to throw the ball and do a good job with it. I think it’ll be a good football game.”

Frasier said while the 2019 meeting was not as lopsided as the score indicates, he expects his team to remember the game and be ready to play on Friday.

“Did we play well? No, we played terrible,” said Frasier. “It was not a good football game for us. The score probably wasn’t as bad as it seems. We won’t be sleeping this time. I think you’ll see us play hard. Now whether we’ll come out on top or not, who knows? But we’re going to play hard and give a lot of effort.”

Despite the addition of the Green Hill matchup, it will be the last home game for Sparta’s seniors who have been apart of the first steps of the building of the WCHS football program. Frasier said he expects his seniors to be motivated because of the goals they can achieve.

“I do think it being senior night and the last game at home… this is kind of the last hoorah for the seniors,” said Frasier. “There’s not been a five-game winning streak since the 1970’s, and there’s only been one team that’s won more than six games in this century. We want to win this game.”
