PUTNAM COUNTY, TENN. – The Putnam County School System is pleased to announce Sycamore Elementary School as a Recognized American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Model Program (RAMP). Only four other schools in the State of Tennessee have this recognition.
“It is a great honor to receive this designation as there are only four schools in the state that have reached this level,” said Tracy Nabors, Principal at Sycamore Elementary School. “This was obtainable due to the efforts of our wonderful school counselor, Mrs. Allyson Evans, and we want to recognize her for what she does for our school.”
The RAMP designation recognizes schools that are committed to delivering an exemplary school counseling program. Honorees are awarded for aligning their program with the criteria in the ASCA National Model, a framework for a data-informed school counseling program. Allyson Evans, school counselor at Sycamore Elementary, submitted a 12-part application in October 2020.
“We have been striving for the RAMP designation for several years,” said Evans. “Three years ago, all the counselors in Putnam County received specialized training to better reach the needs of the students in our county. Our school then began working towards being a model counseling program.
Evans continues, “I am very excited about this. The RAMP designation is an honor we have worked very hard for. It tells the world that Sycamore’s program is striving to meet the needs of all students by looking at the school’s data and developing a comprehensive school counseling program to meet those needs. It also shows that our school cares about the whole student. We have so many awesome counseling programs in the county and several who are currently working to also receive this designation. This has grown me as a school counselor, and Sycamore’s counseling program is much more focused and effective.”
Corby King, Director of Schools for the Putnam County School System said, “This is a great achievement for Sycamore Elementary. We are very proud of them for receiving the RAMP designation, and they should be proud of what they have accomplished. This shows their commitment to their students and the school counseling profession.”
Sycamore Elementary will be honored at a recognition ceremony at ASCA’s annual conference in Las Vegas, Nev., on July 13, 2021.
