Leisure Services offers fall leagues: Basketball, kickball, pickleball

COOKEVILLE – As the weather cools down, athletics will be heating up at Cane Creek SportsPlex and Cane Creek Gymnasium.

Cookeville Leisure Services is offering adult leagues for basketball, kickball and pickleball.

“We are thrilled to offer a full slate of pro- gramming for the rest of the fall,” Seth Bruton,Leisure Services athletic superintendent, said. “It will be exciting to have kickball back at the sportsplex, 5v5 basketball at the gym and to grow our pickleball programming with our first indoor league. These are great ways for friends to get together and create new memories playing the sports they love.”

Basketball, a five-versus-five open league, will be played Tuesday nights, Sept. 14-Nov. 12, at Cane Creek Gymnasium, 180 CC Camp Road. The season will be followed by an all-star game and single-elimination tournament. The team fee is $250, and registration is open through Sept. 3. For more information, call 526-9767.

“Basketball has been a staple sport here at the gymnasium, and we are excited to offer a league after its long absence due to the pan- demic,” Lori Medlin, athletic coordinator, said.

Kickball will be played Tuesday and Thursday nights, Sept. 28-Oct. 26, at Cane Creek SportsPlex, 2200 W. Jackson St. This co-ed league will follow a seven-three gender ratio and include eight regular season games and a single elimination tournament. The team fee is $150, and registration is open Aug. 23-Sept. 10. To learn more, call 520-5224.

Tyler Johnson, athletic coordinator, said, “Kickball has been requested numerous times since the last league a few years back, and we are excited to offer it again. Most have fond memories of playing kickball in their childhood. We hope this league provides a nice flashback for those who love the sport.”

Pickleball league play will take place Tuesday mornings, Nov. 2-Jan. 18, from 8:30-11 a.m. at Cane Creek Gymnasium. Participants will play five games each Tuesday with different partners. Staff will oversee scoring and coordinate matchups. The top three players at the end of the league will receive 35/30 passes for 35 free visits to the gymnasium. Registration is $10 per player through Oct. 4. For more information, call 520-5224 or 526-9767.

“Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country,” Johnson said. “This summer we held our first outdoor league, which was a huge success. Now we are looking to expand to an indoor league. This is a sport a variety of people can play. We hope to see our dedicated group out there along with some new faces.”
