Byrdstown-Pickett County Update 9/20/21

Welcome to Fall Ya’ll!!!

Fall officially begins on Wednesday, Sept. 22. I’m not sure where this year has gotten off to myselg, but it’s time for the annual flurry of activities and events that mark the season.  It’s also time to start ad sales for the 2022 Dale Hollow Lake Explorer.  If you would like to advertis this year, let us know.  Ther Farmers Market should have apples (Red Delicious) and another variety, dried apples, tomatoes, potatoes and 4 kinds of peppers next Wednesday and Friday.

Tomorrow at the Big South Ford Brandy Creek Visitors Center they will be hosting the Annual Haunting in the Hills Storytelling Festival.  You can get the details here. There’s quite a line-up for the day, so check it out.  They have also posted a lot of information on their facebook page that you might enjoy as well if you can’t get the opportunity to go especially.  If you have RSVP’d for the fundraising Gala on September 18 at 6PM for Good Neighbors Theatre, that is tomorrow!  The First Fall Festival in Byrdstown will be held on Thursday evening, Sept. 23 beginning at 6 PM with lots of fun for everyone!  The local Baptist Churches are sponsoring the event along with the Town of Byrdstown, Bilbrey’s IGA and Byrdstown Subway.Then on Friday, Sept. 24, Junction Station in Albany will be having a Customer Appreciation Event from 10 AM – 2 PM with food and prizes.  That evening, Family Fun and Events Byrdstown will be hosting a 50’s themed evening with dress contest, food, games and the movie “Grease” sponsored by People’s Bank & Trust Co. On Saturday, Twin Lakes Telephone Cooperative will be having their Annual Election of Officers at the local offices for their customers to vote and enter for prizes – they always have some nice door prizes as well. (VEC will have their Annual Meeting virtually again this year due to COVID.  They will post more details later.) Cordell Hull Birthplace State Historic Park/The Friends of Cordell Hull will be having Cordell Hull Day on Saturday the 25th. They have a great day planned for the entire family.  The following week we have the Rollercoaster Yard Sale – September 30 – October 2, The Stephens Center Baby Shower on October 1 from 3-5 PM at their Byrdstown location, and the Fall Dale Hollow Bass Classic – October 2 -3.  Then on October 9th we have the 10th Annual  Town of Byrdstown 5k/3k Run/Walk! Time to get all those entries in for the Bass Clasic and the 5k/3k!!!!….. and  then there is Daleholloween and Family Fun and Events Byrdstown’s events for late October! Whew! Cordell Hull Birthplace State Park continues to offer a variety of workshops.  Space is limited so you need to register for the one(s) you are planning to attend.

We still have plenty of space in the Fall Dale Hollow Bass Classic on October 2 -3, 2021.  If you didn’t get a form, you can download the form.  The Town of Byrdstown 3k/5k will be the following weekend – on October 9/2021.  Forms are available on this link, the Welcome Center and Town Hall or by email request.  We are celebrating our 10th year and would like to make our donation amount be $10,000.00 for 10 years!  We appreciate your helping the committee reach their goal.  WCTE TV has several events coming up in the near future.
