CHS Golf In Seventh Place After Round One Of The State Tournament

The Cookeville Cavaliers’ golf team sits in seventh place in the TSSAA Class AA State Golf Tournament after an opening-round 309 (+21) on a wet course at the Sevierville Golf Club.

The Cavs sit six strokes back of third place with one round remaining.

“We’ve got to keep doing what we did today, more or less,” said CHS head coach Larry Pitts. “Everybody could have shot a few shots better, but of course I’m glad at where they’re at. ”

The Cavs were led by Luke Caldwell’s two-under 70. Joseph Agee shot even par. Jakob Smith shot a 75. Caleb Scott shot a 92, and Ethan Poston shot a 95.

Brentwood leads the field with a 292, followed closely by Knoxville Halls at 297. Third through seventh place in the field are separated by six strokes.

In individual girls’ action, Daniella Pryor shot a 74 on the par 70 Highlands Course, tied for seventh-lowest score in the field.

“Daniella played really well, and the course the girls are playing is really tough,” said Pitts. “That is actually her best round of the year, and she picked a good day for it.”

Round two will begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. Rain is in the forecast throughout the day.
