The Cookeville Lady Cavs ended White County’s season on Monday in the district tournament by a final score of 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-12).

It’s the first postseason win for first-year Lady Cavs head coach Lucas Martin, though he took the same way he took every other win this season.

“It’s just like every other game, no different,” Martin said. “It’s really nothing special. It’s just the next game. The only difference now is if you lose, you go home.”

As for how his team played, Martin says there were positives, but he knows his team will have to play better if they want to make a fourth consecutive deep postseason run.

“It was a good warmup, but we still played at about 70 percent of what we could play,” Martin said. “If we play like that tomorrow, we’re going home.”

The third set proved to be Cookeville’s most complete set, as the came out of the huddle on fire to score the first nine points of the set. This allowed them to take control and play their game in Martin’s eyes, and the part that stuck out to him the most was the Lady Cavs’ mental approach.

“The communication and intelligence (we played with) was nice,” Martin said. “They made smart choices, and we didn’t hand points away.”

The road to the region tournament will see the Lady Cavs take on the second-seeded Green Hill Lady Hawks on Tuesday, beginning at 6:30 P.M. at Mt. Juliet High School.
