Gallagher Named District MVP Among Slew Of Other Awards For Cookeville

The Cookeville Lady Cavs closed out a perfect regular season with their 82-33 win over Wilson Central in the season finale, leading to a bevy of district awards for the team.

Leading the way was junior Cassie Gallagher, as she was named the District 9/AAAA MVP and was also named to the All-Defensive Team.

Fellow junior Jordan Gillies was also named to the All-Defensive Team, as well as the All-District First Team. Senior KK Graves was also featured on the First Team.

Senior Bailey Gillies was the lone Lady Cavs on the All-District Second Team, another accomplishment for the recent Blue Mountain College signee.

Seniors Emma Webb and Chay Cunningham were named honorable mentions.

Head coach Jamie Gillies was named the Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Cavs to a 26-0 record.

The Cavaliers were well-represented in the district awards as well, headlined by Josh Heard’s inclusion on the All-District First Team.

Senior D.J. Potts-Heard and sophomore Dontae Potts-Heard were each named to the All-District Second Team after their first year in Cavalier jerseys.

Sophomore Bennett Reeves and senior Windle Oakley were each given honorable mention nods, while Reeves was also named to the All-Defensive Team.

The District 9/AAAA Tournament begins on Thursday night at Green Hill with the two play-in games. On the girls side, Mt. Juliet will take on Wilson Central, with the winner meeting Cookeville in the semifinals.

The same two schools will also play on the boys side, though the winner of that game will take on Lebanon.

The Lady Cavs will take on their opponent on Saturday at 5 P.M. at Green Hill, while the Cavaliers will play Green Hill in the game before at 3:30 P.M.
