UC Top-5 Presented By TLTSports Performance – Week of February 7

The final week of the regular season is here! Now the real fun begins as teams battle for postseason positioning.

Let’s not waste time. Here’s the UC Top-5 presented by TLTSports Performance!

UC Top-5 Girls’

  1. Cookeville (LW: 1)

The Lady Cavaliers got one of the most impressive wins of the season with a 23-point blowout win at Lebanon. KK Graves is perhaps playing the best basketball of her high school career, as CHS is firing on all cylinders. One game away from an undefeated regular season, and they are quickly becoming the best girls’ basketball team in the history of Cookeville High School.

  1. White County (LW: 3)

The Warriorettes evened the season series with Livingston Academy, and as a result they control their own destiny in District 7/AAA. If they sweep their matchups with Macon County and (2) with Cumberland County they will win the regular season title. The big three of Alaina Stiles, Nia Powers and Celeste Reed are as dominant as any in the state. If the Warriorettes can protect the basketball, they can win a gold ball.

  1. Livingston Academy (LW: 2)

The Lady Wildcats dropped their second district game of the season in the battle with Sparta, but they are still in the thick of things atop the district. Ultimately, it is the best district in the state, so losses are inevitable. Now, they’ll look to knock off Upperman in Baxter, which is no small feat, and then become big Cumberland County fans in hopes of winning the district. Regardless, this is a team that is fully capable of making a long run.

  1. Upperman (LW: 4)

While everyone has been distracted by White County, Livingston and Cumberland County, the Lady Bees have rattled off four straight wins. Have they dominated their schedule? They are 19-5 and have not lost a game by more than five points and four of the five have come against ranked teams. This is a revenge week for them as they welcome Livingston and DeKalb County into the Hive. With two wins and some help, they could reach as high as second in the district.

  1. York (LW: 5)

The Dragonettes are red hot. They’ve won four in a row and eight out of their last nine. Michael Green’s squad is playing with newfound energy as they blew out Clay County in Celina and got two district wins. They are undoubtedly the class of District 5/AA, and we’ll be stunned if they don’t finish the season in the Glass House.

Honorable Mentions:

Clay County

Red Boiling Springs

UC Top 5 Boys’

  1. York (LW: 2)

Welcome back to the top spot, York. They’ve won eight in a row and are a combined 5-0 against the next three teams on the list. This is a complete, deep basketball team who is peaking at the right time. Like the Dragonettes, we expect the Dragons to be in Murfreesboro in a month.

  1. Clay County (LW: 1)

The Bulldogs fall a spot by nature of their narrow loss against York, but they bounced back by sweeping the season series over Pickett County and securing another District 7/A title. It’s simple at this point, if Grant Strong doesn’t win Mr. Basketball it is a joke, and the Bulldogs are quickly emerging as the favorite to repeat as Class A state champions.

  1. Jackson County (LW: 4)

The Blue Devils put up a valiant effort in their road loss against York and move up a spot based on their 10 wins in last 12 games. Ramon Cuevas got one of our Mr. Basketball votes, and he has a strong supporting cast around him. They’ve shown they can hang with the Dragons, and they will look to get a signature win on Tuesday when they travel to Clay County.

  1. Pickett County (LW: 3)

It’s been a rough couple of weeks for the Bobcats as they’ve lost three out of their last five, but they have an opportunity to end the regular season with two wins as they try to regain momentum into the postseason. The good news? They’ve lost to really good basketball teams. If they can return to the form we saw them have earlier in the season, they can move up the top-5 again.

  1. Smith County (LW: 5)

The Owls have won 10 games in a row and have an impressive 21-4 record. They have a tough matchup on Tuesday at Trousdale County, but they’ve already locked up the District 6/AA title and are cruising into the postseason.

Honorable Mentions:

Cumberland County

White County
