PUTNAM COUNTY, TENN. – Prescott South Archery team attended the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) 15th State Championships at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tenn., with several students placing with one qualifying for nationals. Prescott South was the only team in the Putnam County School System to compete at the 2022 State tournament.
Coaches Mark Tylka, Mike LeBlanc, Kyndra Kee, and Laura Allen have 54 students on the Prescott South archery team.
“Our archery program is three years old and we took 41 students to the state tournament this year,” said Laura Allen. “The pandemic made it hard to attend tournaments and most of them you sent in your scores. This year, it was exciting to take the students to the state tournament. The archery range was set to have 120 students shooting at the same time. This is three times what our students are used to, so it was a different environment and an amazing learning experience for them. We could not be more proud of them.”
Jet Long, 5th grade, scored 7th out of 221 in the state elementary boys division. Jet also qualified for Nationals.
The Prescott South Elementary team scored 6th place out 17 teams in the state.
Zach Leonard, 6th grade, scored 17th place out of 278 sixth through eighth-grade students with a score of 265.
Eli Cook, 6th grader, had the most 10s within the Prescott South Archery team with nine total.
