The White County Warriorettes continued their excellent play of late with a dominant 15-0 win over Cumberland County on Thursday.
After Addison Abell pitched a shutdown opening frame, White County pushed five runs across the plate in the bottom of the first. Ashlynn Phillips opened the scoring with an RBI double, and Hannah Crawford closed it out with a two-run single to right-centerfield.
Abell continued her excellent pitching performance in the second by striking out two of her three outs in the second, setting the stage for the offense to do more damage.
And do more damage they did, as Sparta scored four more times to run the lead to 9-0.
The offensive struggles for the Lady Jets continued into the third, as Abell struck out two more batters and induced a popup for the third out. The senior then helped herself as a part of a six-run third inning when she belted a two-run home run over the left-field fence.
Caydra Parker then closed the game with a two-run single to finish out the 15-0 win for White County.
When all was said and done for Abell, she finished with seven strikeouts and only one hit allowed for head coach Jerry Roberts.
“We swung the bats really well, and we had a lot of discipline,” Roberts said. “I think that was one of the better performances, hitting-wise, that we’ve had in a long time.”
For Roberts, it’s no surprise that Abell has been pitching as well as she has, and it’s a major reason that they team is having the success they are.
“She’s just pitching unbelievably,” Roberts said. “We just keep handing her the ball, and she’s keeps going out there and does what she does.”
While the 15-0 run performance is one he’s proud of, Roberts says he would still like to see team be more disciplined.
“Swinging at good pitches (is what I want),” Roberts said. “Be disciplined in hitting, and going out and hitting the ball better are what we are focused on.”
