The Cookeville Lady Cavs battled early and often, but faltered late in a 15-4 loss to Lebanon to open the District 9/AAAA Tournament.

After Cookeville went down in order to open the game, Lebanon took an early lead with four runs in the bottom of the first.

The Lady Cavs began their trek back into the game with a run in the second on a Lebanon error, making the score 4-1. CHS then shut down the Lady Devils bats in the bottom of the frame to keep momentum in their dugout for the time being.

Cookeville put another run on the board in the top of the third to cut the deficit to 4-2, but Lebanon answered back in a big way with three runs in the bottom of the inning to push the advantage back to 7-2.

The Lady Cavs didn’t go away just yet however, as a two-run single off the bat of Madison Lancaster cut the lead down to 7-4.

That was as close as it would get however, as Lebanon scored four runs each in the fourth and fifth innings to bring the contest to the final score of 15-4.

Lancaster’s two-run single proved to be the biggest hit of the night for the Lady Cavs, and she was also handed the tough loss in the circle.

Cookeville will now head to Wilson Central on Friday with their season on the line.
