The Stone Memorial Lady Panther soccer team has advanced to the District 6AA tournament semifinals following their 5-0 opening-round win over White County on Monday, 5-0.
Stone Memorial senior Haley Suggs scored two goals in the victory while keeper Kailee Waldo pitched the shutout in the net.
SMHS’ Emma Thompson got the Lady Panthers on the board less than 9 minutes in as she tapped in a shot in front of the net, putting Stone Memorial up 1-0.
Suggs’s first goal came with 21:37 remaining until halftime on a shot from the right side, putting her team up 2-0.
Four minutes later, Peyton McGinnis scored as a shot deflected off a White County defender into the net, making the score 3-0 at halftime.
Haley Suggs scored the game’s second goal midway through the second half, followed by freshman Casey Hepburn’s first career goal to make the final score 5-0.
Stone Memorial advances to face Cumberland County in Tuesday’s District 6AA semifinals at CCHS at 5 p.m.
