Strong Second Half Leads Monterey Over Sequatchie In 5-2A Consolation, 58-26

An impressive second half led the Monterey Wildcats (20-13) to a 58-26 victory over Sequatchie County Tuesday afternoon in the District 5-2A boys consolation round.

After leading by one point at halftime, Monterey outscored the Indians 43-12 in the second half to secure their 32-point victory.

Tre Monette led the Wildcats with 19 points, followed by Brandon Dillon with 16.

A low-scoring first quarter saw the teams tied at 5 points each at the end of the frame. Neither team led by more than 4 points in the second quarter as the Wildcats took a 15-14 lead to the locker room at halftime.

Monterey head coach Lynus Martin’s halftime adjustments were effective as the Wildcats took control on both ends of the floor in the third period. The Wildcats outscored Sequatchie County 20-6 in the third period to lead 35-20 entering the fourth.

The final quarter mirrored the third period as Monterey controlled both ends of the floor and outscored Sequatchie County 23-6 in the frame to secure a 58-26 victory.

Up next for Monterey is the Region 3-2A quarterfinals as they’ll travel to Westmoreland (22-8).
