8-Run Fifth Inning Leads DeKalb Over Livingston, 13-3

The DeKalb County Tigerettes picked up another District 7-3A softball victory over Livingston Academy Tuesday evening as they defeated the Lady Wildcats in 5 innings, 13-3.

DeKalb County tallied 15 hits in the victory, led by first baseman Madison Martin and centerfielder Morgan Walker, who each went 3-4. Martin drove in 2 RBIs, hit a triple and scored 2 runs while Walker recorded 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs and a double. Emma Martin recorded 3 RBIs in the win.

Tigerette pitcher Kora Kilgore recorded the victory as she struck out 8 Livingston batters in 5 innings.

Bailey Hutchinson, Kendall Simpson and Maddie Gaw recorded 2 hits each for Livingston Academy.

DeKalb County recorded a run in each of the first three innings to hold a 3-1 advantage entering the fourth. A Walker double in the first scored Madison Martin, followed by an Emma Martin single in the second to score Aniston Farler.

Following Livingston’s Simpson driving in Jozie Allen for the Lady Wildcat’s first run, Emma Martin drove in Walker in the bottom of the third to put DeKalb ahead 3-1.

The Tigerettes put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth as a Bryna Pelham single scored Aly Griffith before a Madison Martin triple sent Pelham home, making the score 5-1 in favor of DeKalb County.

Livingston cut DeKalb County’s lead to 2 runs in the top of the fifth as a Simpson single scored Allen again before Emma Dulworth drew a bases-loaded walk to make the score 5-3 with one out.

Kilgore kept the damage to a minimum as she recorded a strikeout and forced a pop fly to end the inning with DeKalb leading 5-3.

The Tigerettes’ bats came alive in the bottom of the fifth as they posted 8 runs in the frame. Hits by Emma Martin, Griffith, Zaleigh Bain, Madison Martin and Walker drove in runs along with Martin drawing a walk and Griffith being hit by a pitch with bases loaded to score the final two runs of the frame, giving DeKalb County the 13-3 mercy-rule victory.

The Tigerettes improve to 14-9 overall and 8-1 in District 7-3A play with the victory. DeKalb County is scheduled to travel to Crossville Thursday for another district contest against Cumberland County at 5 p.m., DCHS defeated the Lady Jets on March 28, 20-0.

Livingston Academy is scheduled to play at White County on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
