CHS Lacrosse Senior Marcum Signs To Play At Truett McConnell

by Rusty Ellis

Monterey High School and Cookeville Lacrosse senior Sally Marcum signed her official national letter of intent on Friday, as she will continue her academic and athletic career at Truett McConnell University.

For Marcum, it’s a day she’s been looking forward to for awhile now, and it had her feeling both happy and anxious.

“I’m very excited, and I’m also a little nervous,” Marcum said. “I’m a bit shaky. I got a big surprise from all of my Truett teammates showing up today, so I am very excited.”

Marcum says that it just felt like the right place for her to be when she visited, as that ultimately led to her choice.

“It just felt like home,” Marcum said. “I was just very welcomed there, I knew people were praying for me there…like I said, I just felt very welcomed.”

CHS head coach Resa Roberts has seen Marcum’s hard work for a few years now, and she says it’s an opportunity that was well-deserved.

“I am incredibly proud of Sally and all that she has accomplished on and off the field,” Roberts said. “She’s been an integral part of our team, and has consistently shown outstanding dedication, hard work and leadership…Sally is an excellent teammate, always encouraging and supporting her fellow players, and her commitment to this team has been unwavering.”

As far as what she’ll miss the most about playing for CHS, Marcum says the bonds she’s created with her teammates is something she will always cherish. In that same regard, she’s also looking forward to building new relationships at Truett McConnell.

“The team I have here, and my family, I’m a big homebody so four hours (away) is a big change for me,” Marcum said. “I think it’s good to move away. It’s a new start, and I’m excited to see where that new journey takes me.”
