The Upperman Lady Bees picked up a non-district soccer victory Tuesday evening over the York Institute Dragons, 3-2.

“It was a very physical game,” said Upperman head coach Mark Herberman. “We had to change our mentality a little bit, get more physical, and play up to what the referees were allowing… I am proud of them, thought they could have held a little better on the ball, and make them work a little harder.”

Upperman came out red-hot in the first five minutes of the game as Lady Bee Angelina Mora scored two goals less than a minute apart to take a 2-0 lead.

Dragonette Driana Diaz also scored a goal in the first half to make the score 2-1. Lady Bee Adrain Roberts closed the first half with a goal to make the score 3-1 at the break.

“I was trying to find that big space that they were giving us in front of the back line when their two defensive mids were physical going forward, then go lateral, and hold position to get them to start stepping towards us,” said Herberman. “They were excited, had a little bit of pressure, and they realized that the second goal of theirs put some pressure on them.”

The second half was a back and forth defensive matchup. Only one goal was scored by Dragonette Driana Diaz to make the final score 3-2.

Upperman will travel to take on district opponent Cumberland County on Thursday night, while the Dragonettes will travel to Jackson County on Thursday night.
