Cookeville senior Julie Martin took the next step in her athletic and academic journey on Friday morning, as she signed her national letter of intent to play softball at Tennessee Tech following graduation.

It’s a rewarding day for Martin, as it’s one she’s been working towards for several years.

“I’m so blessed, I’m just so grateful for all the support I’ve had,” Martin said. “It’s just amazing how many people came out today…I’m happy I get to stay home, and it’s just basically a dream come true.”

As far as the recruiting process goes, Martin says she was uneasy early on, but after weighing her options and considering everything in front of her, she was thrilled to choose Tennessee Tech.

“It was a lot for me,” Martin said. “I had a ton of support throughout the entire (process), so my decision was really easy once I went to Tech, because the coaches are great and I love the campus. I love the girls, the atmosphere, it was all really good…I had a whole tour and had a really good experience.”

Martin says there’s different things she’ll miss about playing for the Lady Cavs, but she’s excited for new opportunities at the next level.

“I’m definitely going to miss the girls, I’ve made some lifelong friends here,” Martin said. “I’m going to miss playing in high school, because it’ll be a different experience, but I’m excited to make that change. It’s going to push me to play harder than I ever have.”
