White County Sweeps Sale Creek Playday

The White County Warriors and Warriorettes kept their undefeated starts to the season going on Thursday as they swept their contests at Sale Creek.

The Warriorettes opened the day with a 72-21 victory over Sale Creek followed by the Warriors defeating Scott, 58-44. The girls closed the day with their second win as they also defeated Scott, 70-43.

 

Girls

White County never trailed Thursday as they ran away with a 72-21 victory over Sale Creek.

Senior forward Celeste Reed led the Warriorettes in game one with 14 points and 7 rebounds along with 13 by sophomore guard Bella Winningham and 10 from freshman Ashlyn Selby.

The Warriorettes led 28-8 after one period before holding Sale Creek to only 3 points in the second quarter to take a 53-11 lead into halftime.

White County controlled the second half en route to a 72-21 victory.

Game two was all Sparta as well as the Warriorettes defeated Scott, 70-43.

Reed posted a double-double in the win as she scored 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Also hitting double figures were junior forward Ava Jones with 14 points, Bella Winningham with 12 and Gracie Clark with 10 points and 7 steals.

White County held a double-digit lead after one quarter, 21-9.

Scott flipped the script in the second quarter as the Lady Highlanders outscored Sparta 14-7 to trail 28-23 at halftime.

White County regained control in the second half as a 27-point third quarter put the Warriorettes ahead 55-29 entering the fourth, where they won by a 70-43 final.

The 3-0 Warriorettes are set to host Cannon County on Monday.

 

Boys

The White County Warriors earned a 58-44 victory over Scott Thursday afternoon to improve to 2-0 in hall of fame action.

Nate Griffin posted a double-double to lead the Warriors with 17 points and 10 rebounds along with 16 points by Mason Steele.

Scott stayed within single digits throughout the first three quarters until a Griffin basket with 6:08 remaining gave the Warriors a 49-38 advantage. Steele put the exclamation point on the victory with 1 minute remaining as he threw down a transition dunk en route to a 58-44 victory.

Up next for White County is a home game against Cannon County on Monday.
