Stone Memorial’s Savanna Amos Signs With Tennessee Tech Track, Cross Country Programs

By Michael Lindsay

Stone Memorial senior Savanna Amos won’t have to travel far for the next step of her running career as she recently singed her NLI with Tennessee Tech University’s cross country and track and field programs.

“I feel super blessed to have this opportunity,” Amos said Wednesday morning at her signing ceremony. “I had no idea anything like this would happen. It’s crazy having everyone here; the people that supported me my whole life.”

“The minute I stepped on (Tech’s) campus, the campus is gorgeous,” Amos added. “The coaching staff and team were so welcoming and made me feel like I was already at home.”

Amos recently placed 10th overall with a time of 19:29.06 in the 2023 TSSAA Class AA state cross country meet last week.

“This past track season, I started placing more and more,” she said. “This cross country season was a big change.

“I definitely want to break into the 18s and 17s on my 5K time in the first year,” Amos added. “It’s a lot of self-motivation and running on your own.”

Amos is set to join the Golden Eagle track team earlier than most as she’s graduating from Stone Memorial in December to joining Tennessee Tech in January.

“I start practice (at Tennessee Tech) January 2,” Amos said. “I think I’m doing the 1600m, 3200m and 5K. I’m trying to do similar workouts as last track season but increasing the intensity of them.”
