Sunbright sweeps Monterey in Tuesday action; Weston Clough Scores 16 For Wildcats

The Sunbright Lady Tigers picked up a road win at Monterey Tuesday evening as they defeated the Lady Wildcats, 74-45.

Monterey Lady Wildcats started off slow Tuesday as their first point came with 3:53 left of the first quarter via a Jalee Johnson basket to make the score 9-2. Monterey trailed Sunbright 18-13 at the end of the first quarter.

With 6:10 left in the first half, Flanigan complete an and-one to make the score 26-16, but Sunbright controlled the rest of the half to take a 40-27 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Sunbright’s offense kept firing in the second half as a 21-point fourth-quarter gave the Lady Tigers a 74-45 victory.

The Sunbright Tigers completed the night’s sweep of Monterey in the second game as a Tiger three-pointer with 6 seconds remaining led them to a 59-56 victory over then Wildcats.

Weson Clough led Monterey with 16 points along with 11 by Colin Fowler.

After a back-and-forth start, Monterey took a 9-8 lead via a Fowler three-pointer with 4:00 remaining in the first period. The Wildcats kept rolling as Aiden Roberson also hits a three-pointer to make the score 16-10 late in the first as the Wildcats held a 22-15 advantage after one period.

Monterey extended their lead to 16 points in the second quarter as a Garrett Wessels three-pointer made the score 36-20 at halftime.

Sunbright battled back in the second half as the Tigers outscored Monterey 14-9 in the third period to trail 45-34 entering the fourth quarter.

The Tigers’ comeback continued into the fourth quarter as they trailed by 3 points (56-53) with 2:08 left.

Sunbright tied the contest at 56 points each late in the fourth before the Tigers hit the game-winning three-pointer with 6 seconds remaining to seal a 59-56 victory over Monterey. Sunbright outscored the Wildcats 25-11 in the fourth quarter.
